Last week, boredom got the better of me: I Googled the phrase “wine blog.” When I got roughly 43 million hits, I thought there were too few blogs out there that dealt with wine, and I vowed to correct this.
Hello, my name is Chris Curran, and I am an oenophile. In order to support my interest, I applied for a job pouring wine in a tasting room here in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country. After covering the countryside with my resume, I began to pour wine in the D’Alfonso-Curran Tasting Room (no relation). Since starting, I learned far more than I thought I would, including a realization that if there is one thing I love more than drinking wine, it’s talking about wine. Run- on sentences aside, a blog seemed like a good outlet.
Will reading my blog change your life or give you new insight into the Wine World? Probably not, but it will help pass the time. I have learned that no matter how much one may “know” about wine, there is always more to learn. The various aspects of fermented grape juice make for a highly complex subculture, and that is the best part! (Some winemakers have developed a cult following, but more on that another time.) Hopefully I can demonstrate through anecdotes, musings, and waxing viniculture that this business is not composed of snobs, but rather slightly sauced bon vivants.
With all that said, grab a glass of your favorite wine (or some absolute swill; it doesn’t matter), sit back and enjoy the ride.
