2006 Quiteria Loma Gorda

An exciting Wednesday.  The markets were quiet after a large sell off on Monday.  I traded very little in the morning and my stomach was treated to leafy vegetables and leftovers.  Not very exciting.  The wine that went with the leftovers was the culinary highlight of the day.  I did, however, do something for the first time that made the day out of the ordinary…more on that tomorrow.

2006 Quiteria Loma Gorda ($11 on-line wine shop not including shipping)

65% Garnacha  35% Syrah from Almansa Spain

Nose:  Intense, dense blueberry, boysenberry, raspberry fruit with wifts of cocoa powder.  Some freshly tanned leather, rosy floral notes and a touch of earth follow the fruit.  The bouquet is pretty and solid.  It rounds out with some hints of wet leaves

Mouth:  Red fruit is very forward.  Cherry and blackberry are bright and lively on the palate.  The acid really brings the fruit profile to the drinker’s immediate attention.  The finish is nice and long and the tannins are sleek yet slightly sharp.  It is a nice, interesting albeit simple and a little one dimensional but it does it’s one thing (fruit intensified by nice acid and balanced tannins) very well.

All and all, I thought this was a nice wine.  Certainly worth the price and I was interested enough to pour another glass of it to enjoy rather than to prevent unconsciencable wasting of wine.
